A digital misfit

Can anyone see this? I’m getting access denied, as expected. What is so great on there that us, non-americans, are not allowed to see it?

This disturbs me too – we don’t torture people, just send them somewhere where they might…

As does this – $25,000 each, thats pretty good going, wonder when that’ll be paid back?

http://www.informa.com/eventsolutions/home.html encourage spamming. They’re an exhibition and conference organiser who don’t respect the “Don’t pass on my email address” box they give you when signing up for the events they organise.

Don’t give them your real email address.

The maestro says its Mozart, but it sounds like bubblegum

I’m sure that playing “Teenage kicks” at the Calling tonight was deliberate – so I took it as tribute to John Peel, which obviously required dancing. I was amazed to see the number of people commenting on his death earlier, I knew he was important to people who were serious about music, but I’d never known how important. I’m not alone in my sadness on hearing of his passing on.

“John Peel was a broadcasting legend. I am deeply saddened by his death…John’s influence has towered over the development of popular music for nearly four decades.”

What if the highly recommended cafe you decided to take someone special to was closed on the day you go? What if you ended up walking all over town to find somewhere else? What if the place you chose served mediocre food in a smoky non-smoking area? What if you then couldn’t find coffee afterwards? What if the station was further away than you thought it was? What if she missed her train?

How would you fix this situation?

Better still, the retired 5-disk autochanger CD machine is back to life now – its wonderful what three years of standing on end gathering dust will do for broken electronics, sure the DAC is still substandard and the carousel action somewhat grating but it basically works as long as you don’t touch it while its doing anything complicated.

Maybe I should try to breathe life back into the iPaq battery while I’m on a roll… (anyone know where I can get an updated WinCE rom for a 3630? Or even a Linux ROM that supports battery charging? – the current one seems not to)

You stare at me like I need to be saved

By necessecity of having no funcitonal CD machines (except those in computers) I’ve just set up my record player – this one hasn’t rotted after years of storage like the last one did (I think, now, that it was just the drive belt but I didn’t consider that until after I’d bought another deck).

The amp is still a little uncontrollable (no_sound, no_sound, little_sound, *VERY_LOUD_INDEED*, I’ve never turned up over ‘3’ ‘cos my ears couldn’t stand that and the little ‘overload’ lights flash in rather a alarming way), but my god, does rock sound good straight from the vinyl! Someone tell my why I got converted to those little shiny disks?

Anyone got any recommendations for voice and/or video conferencing software or services? What do you use? Are there standard protocols? (H323/H263? VoIP?) Do I need to run a server? Or are they peer to peer?
