A digital misfit

Driving back from Norwich last night I found my first ever 10mph speed restriction on a dual carriageway. They even had traffic lights to make you wait for the tractor to lead a convoy through the coned section.

This kind of thing can only happen in Norfolk, everywhere else people are far too impatient to consider travelling at that kind of speed, sensible places would have made a contraflow.

I despair over the efficiency of this country. Today I received the third copy of my cars registration document. Late last year, when I moved to Cambridge, I sent off the old one with a change of address. Somehow I timed it so it crossed in the post with a new style registration document with my parents address. Ok, I figured I’d fill this in and send it off again as I thought they’d forgotten to do the actual change of address. Then a couple of weeks later a new document turned up with the new address on. Good. All sorted.

Then a couple of weeks later another document turned up with the new address on. Fair enough, maybe it didn’t just cross in the post and I’ve now requested two changes of address. Now, another couple of weeks on I’ve got another one. Right now I’m trying to think of anything devious one could do with three copies of registrations for the same car. Thoughts anyone?

Last night DJDurje tried to kill me by playing Rock Lobster back to back with Kill the Poor, that really is more than someone of my advancing years can really deal with. Still, it was good to scheme with the delightful toripink (Zombies! Killer Robots! Rock and Roll!)

Now I have to write an agenda for tomorrows meeting and visio is crashing whenever I try to save the state machine it rescued after last time it crashed…

I’ll ask my colleague to call off the debt collection…

*blink*!

Me: But I paid this bill within three days of receiving it
Powergen: Theres no record of payment until 11th Jan
Me: The money left my bank on 29th Dec
Pg: Our system automatically sends reminders after 14 days of non-payment
Me: Reminder was sent on 12th Jan and received today, 18th

And so went my argument with customer services. Surely any automated system will need a little balancing, if payments really do take two weeks to make it through the system sending reminders after 14 days is going to cause everyone to receive a reminder.

Anyone got any recommendations for gas supply companies that will treat me like a paying customer rather than a bad debt waiting to happen?

I know I’m in the right place because theres a vase full of Rubik cubes in the window…

Dilbert captures the world I live in, again

Made it to the boot fair this morning, having found everyone packed up and gone home last week….caught up with dalglir and his young lady, who seemed to be having a good time there, and found someone selling the Lego Bionicle boardgame (Quest for Makuta, or something) for 2 quid…I got it home and found they’d not even taken everything out of its little plastic bags, let alone played it. Of course, in my eagerness to read the rules I managed to get them covered in Mango chutney. Ooops.
