A digital misfit

The Glen and Vincent experience…

We arrived fashionably late, halfway through the first set, and decided that actually we would be better off sitting somewhere where we could see the screen. A worthwhile move to be able to see the stunning montage of footage culled from various sources. Its good to see some political anger making its way back into music. Its something that I’ve not seen done by many recent bands. But was this music or art? I don’t know. On the face of it, its two guys with guitars and synths. When you look a little more you notice theres no live vocals, everything is samples.

At the end of the set everyone disappeared to move on to the next event. Dedicated fans that we are we stuck around awaiting the second performance. And were treated to what essentially became a private showing, everyone else had gone home. A little slicker second time.

I’d like to see them perform again, there’s plenty of mileage in the material and theres no shortage of bizarre video footage out there.

Toms birthday

I ventured to the big smoke again last night for Toms birthday celebration.

We all met up at the Fitzroy (Charlotte Street)…there was a surprisingly large number of people I knew there – I’d expected not to know anyone there. It was good to see everyone again, Tom and Nicky, obviously, quite a collection of Mikes, Sam, Tamsin, Tim.

After a while we decided that it was too late to go anywhere else to get food – we got monster burgers there instead.

A nice evening, catching up with yet more people I don’t see enough of…

Should I buy a laptop now?

If I do, I would get one with manuals I can understand. And I could set it up before I go.

If I leave it til I get to Japan, it’ll probably work out cheaper (if I can avoid any of their gaijin rip-off specials) and I wouldn’t have to arse about with taking it on the plane.

Decsions, decisions.

Uselessness

I gave up waiting for the Oxford crew at the Temple at about 9.20 – I’d decided that everyone had gone somewhere and I was going to set out to try to find them. Just as I was leaving I phoned edling to see him walking into the carpark…turns out that there wasn’t a devious scheme to avoid me, just everyone being useless.

Just had my ‘welcome to jobseekers allowance filling in the form over the phone’ call. What a bizarre experience, they obviously don’t trust me to fill in the form myself. Next I get to meet with an advisor on friday who will put me through some ritual humiliation of some sort before I can claim benefits to which I am entitled.

Christians birthday party – Cambridge

A final chance to catch up with some the old Cambridge crew before I leave these shores. Good to see them all again, even if I didn’t get to talk to them much.

I got trapped in the kitchen by a drunk psychiatric nurse (well, he said he was a nurse, but seemed, to me, a bit more like a patient). Adelle came to try to rescue me but managed to get embroiled in a detailed discussion of some bizarre religion…

The evening ended with a Mikey containing too much alcohol jumping around in a scary way and me taking too many pictures. I love digital cameras.
