  1. Well, do you _want_ a job in Australia? What’s the job? Does it sound like something you’d like to do? Are you ready to make another big move, or would you prefer to stay put for a while longer, and see what happens here?

    • Is anything likely to happen here? Not sure its worth sticking around to find out….things in this country are getting pretty grim. Not that I think Oz is much better, mind.

What the job is is probably the decider for me, rather than its location. Ideally they’d be happy with a work-from-home thing and travel out there once a month or somesuch.

  2. Do you know much about Australia and how easy/difficult it would be to live and work there?
Do you know people there? Sometimes change is good but having to build a completely new social circle can be a daunting task.

However, if the job is the dream job for you, why not?
Still, I’ve had the impression that a job is more of a necessary evil for you and that you’d rather do your own thing.

    • Aussies aren’t difficult to make friends with, though they’re a little coarse for my liking. I’m far too refined and *English* for them.

Job isn’t a necessary evil, it should be an enjoyable passtime that you happen to get paid for. Sadly management seem to spend their entire lives in such a state of insecurity about their own skills they contrive to make it near impossible to actually do anything properly.

  3. Well if you need some contacts “down under” just call me, your fave aussie girl in Tokyo, and I can help you out… I have lots of friends and family kicking around in different cities and many of them are in techie type work environs.

Lifestyle is easy going and mellow. If you head to a town like Melbourne there are lots of extra-curricular activities that will suit your tastes. I think the climate in the Northern cities will be too hot for you – remember Tokyo Summers? – but the internal flights for touring around are pretty cheap these days. Lots to see. Plus NZ is pretty close and I am sure that our “pirate lover” friend can testify to it’s easy going ways.

    • Yay…though it looks like they’re not particularly exciting roles, so I’m not going to pursue them. Shame, I’d like to have a good excuse to spend some time in Aus.
