A digital misfit

Hmm…joy….I got to the office in record time this morning. Sadly it was the wrong sort of record – about 1hr15 for what should be a 12 minute journey – thats an average of around 8mph – four vehicle accident at my exit tailing back to nearly where I joined. I love the A14. Really I do. Maybe I have to learn the back roads, or how to jog, or something.

  1. when my drive is bad (usually only in the evening) I have a tendency to get off the highway and start driving in the right direction. This has resulted in phone calls to my boyfriend with questions like “does this street have a bridge over the river?” and other bits of fun.

but it usually distracts me, and gets rid of the impending frustration headache. I just bought a hands-free set for my cell phone so I can talk to people safely while driving.

    • The problem with the area around Cambridge is that there aren’t that many roads that go through, many times I’ve been caught off-guard and ended up in a farmyard when I thought I was on a road that was going somewhere….getting to learn the way these days.

  2. There is *no way* I’m going on the A14 on two wheels….the last guy I heard of doing that had a coroners report that said something like “The lorry driver who killed him was negligent but it was a *really stupid* thing to do”. And, tbh, I’m not sure the back roads are any better.

  3. There are, but they’re mainly radial (I blame the Romans) – the A14 is significantly closer to a straight line between my house and the office than any of the back roads.

There might be pathways that go through, though, but such exploring will have to wait until springtime.
