…there seems to be so many photo opportunities in Chernobyl, I especially like the fairground.

  1. is full of Russians. Not surprising, really.

Despite the tempting photo opportunity, I think I wouldn’t go to Chernobyl on my own free will. Not in the next 1000 years, at least.

    • Indeed, there seems to be quite a population of them on LJ as a whole. I’d love to be able to understand some of the commentary but the pictures are good enough its not necessary.

Not sure if I’d visit – I’d love to, just to see it, but theres something of a downside to it, too.

  2. Not sure there is too much in the way of problems to the *general* picture caused by the radiation in the area, sure it causes problems to specific biological units which is why we’re so worried about it. But I think the big picture isn’t such a problem, since although it might reduce the life expectancy of individuals the whole population will remain fairly similar, since the available resources remain the same. It might tilt the balance slightly in favour of things with less complex, or less vulnerable, genesets.

It does give rise to nice pictures of reclamation of cityscapes, though, doesn’t it?

  3. Yeah, I suppose it depends on things like the length of the summer, but I’ve no idea what the climate is like there – I suspect it hot in summer cold in winter, with a week or two of transition between the two.
