A digital misfit

I’ll give you a clue, I love the adrenaline rush you get from swerving into the path of a van overtaking me at 75.

…and somewhat unrelated: “Although the evidence is anecdotal, reports of motorists failing to keep their distance will reignite the debate over the spread of speed cameras”

    • People who would otherwise drive fast feel they can make better progress in slow traffic by driving inches from the guy in front, “I’m going slower now I don’t need to leave so much space”.

It always amazes me how many cars can fit into what I consider to be a safe stopping distance – there’s regularly three cars, often four, overtaking in that two second gap between me and the car in front. Indeed, after incidents like the near-overturning taxi the other day I’m not prepared to drive any closer – that was close enough for my liking.

I wonder how easy it would be to detect tailgating and where appropriate prosecute for driving without due care and attention? Spotting the plates of the cars in the middle of a bunch would be tricky, but that’s OK because the one you really want is the back of the bunch, as they are in a good position to open up a bit more space safely, but are choosing not to do so.
