A digital misfit

Of escapologists and burny things

The week has been dominated by trying to figure out what to do about the offer of work in Farnborough – they want to move quickly, originally requesting I start tomorrow. Thing is, I need a break before I start anything else, but they took my positive answer to “What do you think about the job” to mean that I wanted to start as soon as possible. I got a message on my phone saying they’d finished drawing up the contract and just needed a start date from me, so I’m avoiding the phone at the moment because I know they’ll try to talk me into something I don’t want to do. How do I resolve this situation?

Then toward the end of the week my parents came to visit, they were surprised at how little I know about Cambridge having lived here for nearly six months – but actually I’ve only really been into town (apart from evenings out) three or four times in that time, and then its been to do battle with the oppressive crowds rather than actually do anything cultural.

Last night was sushidogs birthday party, after a minor detour via some very dark parts of the country – thanks to a mildly errant satnav and a blackout around Flitwick. Still managed the trip in an hour, so its not as far as it might seem. And my detour paled in comparison to those of some other guests, who managed to take in most of Hertfordshire in their navigation attempts.

The arrival of a canister of gas signalled the start of an engineering exercise of the scale that should be a featured at more parties.

Two hours later, under the newly errected patio heater, mr_flay was performing escapes from chains and handcuffs – that man has got to get himself on stage more, he’s good.

  1. If you really feel that you need a break, I can’t think of anything to do except to tell them so. Work out beforehand when you would like to start, phone them up and ask if that’s ok with them. They’ll probably be fine with that.

    • They’ve already made it clear they won’t be fine with that – which is fine with me, because I need a break more than I need a job right now.

  2. flitwick?? the one thats just up the road from leagrave?

    crikey!

anyway, you should tell them you were plannign on a break before starting anything new.

if theyre really keen to recruit you, they will happily wait a few weeks.

    :o)

    • Yes, that flitwick…its odd seeing darkness in that area of the country on the middle of saturday evening.

      I don’t think they’ll wait for me…which might be a good thing.
