A digital misfit

Somehow my parents, during their stay, managed to completely knock (what little there was of) my self-confidence. Are there any quick-fix solutions for getting it back? What do you do when you feel you’ve been misunderstood and maligned by someone?

  1. Kill them and hide the bodies. Works every time.
Failing that, hang out with your friends, and remember that they (we, actually) think you’re very cool. Or throw a party and invite lots of people, an escapologist, and a patio heater. :-)

Good to see you yesterday, thankyou for coming!

    • Not sure I could lay the patio so neatly once they’re under it…

Thank you for inviting me – good to see everyone again (and especially nice to see you looking splendid and having a fabulous time), but I’m going to need a reminder for who Chris and Krys are in LJ-land…?

  2. You post to lj and all your friends tell you waht an incredibly good bloke you are. *hug*

I hate parents in general for exactly the reason that only they can do that kind of thing to successful thirtysomethings; I should auction my services as a sarcastic parent-resizing housemate on Ebay.

    • Thank you. But that wasn’t the intention of the post…doubtless find a use for such services should they be available, maybe I could reprogam a furbie with a bunch of samples? I think there’d be a market for that.

  3. No, thats probably not the answer…

Dunno about successful, not sure thats really the problem, its a bit more of a how-to-relate-to-people thing, they’re making judgements about how I deal with people based on their experiences of dealing with people in their generation.

  4. Thats the problem – they’re so damned right, its just that it was phrased so badly it hurt. So I just went quiet, since it was about how I talk about events and things in my life, which just made everything spiral down.

  5. This is it, I can’t decide, in some ways they’re right, but in others they are so far removed from the way my life (and modern society) is that they can’t understand it – transpose me into their generation and I’d be an inconsiderate oaf of no practical use to society. Erm…
