Elmo Tent offers me an alternative

I love spam. And hate it at the same time. How else could you ever expect to encounter someone called ‘Elmo Tent’?

The theme of the moment seems to be food – yesterday we went to Pop Bellies in Huntingdon (ulfilias, I need an up-to-date number for you, the one I have starts 0171, a touch out of date, I fear), where the food is fabulous and we got a room to ourselves, since the place wasn’t exactly busy.

Tonight, Teri-Aki, a Japanese restaurant in Cambridge. Tonkatsu! I’ll be going there again…even if I have forgotten nearly all I ever knew of Japanese restaurant etiquette.

  1. I’ve heard mixed reviews of the Teri-Aki but if they actually do tonkatsu it can’t be that bad. I’ve just heard that the sushi is apparently not that brilliant there.
Mmmm, Japanese food. Such a shame that the brilliant food service on Huntingdon road was so short-lived.

  2. You’re too modest.

We were all very impressed by your knowledge of the Japanese language, quisine and etiquette… of course I’m still trying to learn English Restaurant etiquette so I’m easily impressed!

    • And to think I was feeling quite self conscious about shouting ‘sumimasen’ to get their attention…it was definitely quite a subdued experience compared with the real thing.

Now all I gotta do is pursuade one of the cute ones to teach me the language proper….

And their etiquette is easier than ours, just remember “feet-dirty, hands-clean” and not to balance anything in such a way it would fall and make a mess in a moderate earthquake, then you’ll be fine. Oh, and don’t serve your rice to the dead.

  3. Pop Bellies is great, i’d almost go to the extent of saying it can be the best resteraunt in town on its good days.

Rather like the Steak Salad…and getting me to eat green stuff is hard enough. email me “lee at darkwave” and i’ll give my phone number
