“he suggests, a backpack could be used in the middle of a protest or emergency to enable everyone in the area to immediately communicate with one another. We can see several situations where a moveable, location-specific network could be very useful”

At last the potential of mobile adhoc networking is becoming a feasibility… the idea of providing such an augmented view of the internet fits nicely with a project I’m currently trying to code up (which is, right now, more thought than action).

  1. that’s very nifty actually. i read these things and think that i really need to find out what all my nifty electronics can actually do. i am well aware that i use less than 10% of just my ibook’s capabilites…
oh and is this icon scary? or safe?

  2. I assume that the powerbook wouldn’t actually be turned on all the time and that most of the idling and power control could be done from a PDA with extended power supply from batteries in the bag, but I might be reading too much into this.

I do like the concept of presenting another ‘internet’ to people trying to find free access points, a slightly warped one where nothing is quite what it seems. Maybe Pornolize it for starters.

  3. Theres something about pornolise which suggests that the developers deeply understand what the net is capable of and they really really don’t want that to happen. Inspired. But it was better in the days when they corrupted the pictures too.
