A digital misfit

A question from evilmattikinz after the movies post – top five movies of all time:

1. Pi
2. Brazil
3. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
4. Natural Born Killers
5. High Fidelity

…which reminds me I was going to do some more ‘top five’s, anyone got any ideas?

    • Erm, hi. I think I need a little more context about who you are…?

(my guess would be that we met on one of the top five days…)

      • ‘Tis Matt – I’ve known you for about 9 years, since Mike introduced us at the Manuskript gig in Northampton.

Then you moved to Northampton. And drank lots of Coke. And drove a white Peugeot 305. And lived in Semilong.

I already lived in Northampton, went out with Liz. I drank far too much lager, and lived in Abington with Ray and Denise.

        Does that help?

        • Yes, thats who I thought you were, but I wasn’t quite sure. Good to hear from you again – I’ve been running around like a mad thing the last couple of times I’ve seen you.

          • No worries, mate, I’m sure I’ve been just as busy! Sounds like you’re having some experience over there, and it makes good reading – I’ll make it over myself one day…

Quick question for you – please answer entirely at your leisure – What’s the food like? I ask, ‘cos the one thing that puts me off Japan (unlike the rest of that part of the world) is the food!

One more thing, you mentioned you might be in Helsinki next year. Keep me posted on that one, I have a couple of friends over there who I’m sure would be happy to give you some useful info and such on the place, not to mention that I’m due to go over there myself at some point next year…

in the meantime, I’ll just say have a good Xmas, and I hope the New Year is just as interesting for you as this one has been!

          • The food here isn’t really my sort of thing – too much fish for my taste. Theres plenty of other food from other places, Italian is a big thing over here (but they really mean American Italian). Reading the menus is a bit hit-and-miss, there are often pictures and/or plastic models of the food, but that just tells you its a fried something, without telling you what the something is. I get by, but my diet isn’t great – I try to get as much fruit as possible to balance out the junkfood a bit.

Right now Helsinki is likely to be around 7th-14th Jan, but that depends a little on whether one of my colleauges gets a visa. Theres a good chance there’ll be another trip later.

  1. High fadelity leading in to the top fives…. nice.
Your a real movie hero :-)
How about top five top fies you have awncered on live jornal…. or is that to self referantual….
    btw
could you tell me homuch a shap zarua the c range would cost in japan?

    • Sounds a bit postmodern for my liking.

Zaurii start around 50k for the SLC700, 60k for the SLC750, 70k for the 760, I’ve not seen the 800 (or is it 860) yet, though but I’d expect that to be a little more.
      (1pound~=190Yen – so ~300quid, 350 and 400)

Though I have seen some offers on them lately and they’ve discontinued the 700 so there might be a bit of downward movement over the month or two.

      • well shitr pocket will flash the rom in to english and import the SCL760 for 500 quid…. So if I could find an english rom…….

  2. I got the SL5500…. yup the 256Meg sd card is a prement fixture in mine. Im only rining (becassue I dont have a CF card) the standard sharp rom i need to get a card and reflash it.

I have to admit I did get the SL5500 beecause it was linux. Sad readly but I cant stomach wince…. pocket pc…

Yea got a wifi card for it and use it alot for MP3s and bsicaly ordring my life.

I just realy like the look of the new ones only afalaba in japan. What would you su

  3. I love toys like kisment and ssh I was messing around on a train and descovered a copel of windos boxes with no admin paswords just switched on…. and alowing accress to ther c drives….

I can only get about an houre out of the pda with the backlight and the wifi card in. I have to say the new one do look nice…. just woried about migration, cost (I only got the 5500 this year so I can justifie anew toy…. still only 200 quid…..), and suport…. The key booard on the 5500 is under a pull down flap… prity cool but the swivel scrreens on the new ones rock.

  4. Never heard of High Fidelity? Where have you been? It was the male answer to Bridget Jones Diary. Or something. Its about a guy who owns a record shop and his relationship problems, basically he was addicted to making ‘top five’ lists of various kinds with the guys who worked in his shop so it seemed kind of appropriate to put that in. Damned fine film too.

  5. A top five of top five lists? An interesting idea, but maybe I’ll do that later when I’ve done a few more of them.

    As for questions:

    – given the choice, where in the UK (world) would you move? And why?
    – what is your next move, career-wise?
    – what can be done to improve the state of the world?
    – will you ever get married?
    – what, so far, has been the most fun era of your life?

  6. Indeed, until recently Microsoft specified a series of form factors for wincetoys – hence the huge swathes of mediocre interfaces across the whole range. They’re lightening up a bit now though.
