Why is it that everyone thinks I should do something with sharp knives? You lot worry me…or maybe I worry you.

Thank you for your hobby suggestions anyway.

The most promising of those suggested so far (while I’m still in Japan, at least) is http://www.geocaching.com , which is a bit like a cross between Fundamental Benchmarks and http://www.confluence.org but with less geekiness. I hope. Now all I need is a GPS unit.

Yeah go for it.
It’s lots of fun- I even found a cache in a cactus in Mexico once.
You can pick up a GPS for about £80 thesedays. Only need positional data, nothing fancy.
there’s a new GPS add on for Nokia phones now too…

  Ooo, bluetooth GPS unit, interesting, thats the kind of thing I was looking for, or maybe one that plugs into the back of a pocketPC, except I’d have to get a pocket pc to go with it (my current one has been reflashed to Linux and has a dead battery).

How do the japanese eat their steak? ;-)
Life would be so much easier if I knew that, theres got to be a better way than picking it up with sticks and trying to bite off a corner.

I’ve got one of each at home (I had to buy my own knife, though the flat came with a fork) – I think it would be considered a little impolite to take your own weaponry to a restaurant.
