Neil Hopcroft

A digital misfit

Since everyone else is doing the ‘describe me in one word’ meme, I figured that memes are getting so streamlined these days that this was nearly as far as they could go…but theres one step further:

Describe me in no words at all.

On a slightly more serious note – I’ve been wondering if theres changes that I could make to the way I write this journal that would make it more interesting for people. So, do you have any suggestions? Would you like to hear more descriptions of things and places? More about my emotional state? More about my views on the things going around me? More about my work? Less of any of these things? Other ideas?

Perhaps I could run some silly games here? Something like – you give me a word (or phrase) and I’ll take a photograph inspired by it.

  1. personally i think it’s pretty cool the way it is. keeping us posted on your experiences, culture shocks, thoughts and impressions of tokyo and any funky pictures and stuff is great. certainly more interesting than your average journal!!!

PS i have discovered 20,000 yen which i forgot to spend! *doh*

i might ask you very nicely if you have some room in your whitby luggage to buy me some trinkets (read fluffy toys) if you get a chance to before you come!!! can pay you in yen!!! ;)

    anyway, keep up the journal!!

    • I’ll have to see how the suitcases look when I’ve stuffed them full of electronics…let me know if there’s something specific you’re after and I’ll see what I can do.

      • one of each big headed “my dog”??? you know, those ridiculous pippies!!! large, ridiculous puppies!!!!and i promised jo i’d try to get her one of the hello kitty dolls that’e dressed in a kimono like the taditional japanese dolls….. may have to send you a piccie to explain that one!!!

The journal is good. Makes me feel like I’m almost there without the hardship :-)

    Yup, what they said.

Describe you in no words? Here:

  3. Describe you in no words? u r yy

I like the journal. Keep it up. If we want more explanations or “what was it like” we ask you in the comments, so this kind of keeps it open and fluid. It’s cool.

I got a 3gpp file somewhere I was going to use but haven’t gotten that uploaded yet…still working on a cultural difference for Mel, I got an idea but don’t know if the picture will work.

  5. This machine was in a small sheltered patio in my local park, I guess the point I was trying to make was that noodles from a machine are normal and something you aren’t ashamed of, indeed, something you would have as part of a normal stroll in the park with your loved one, while in the UK no-one eats a pot noodle in public. And no, there is nothing unusual about photographing a vending machine, just think what Japanese tourists in the UK are like, though I did get some funny looks the other day when I photographed a corner (which will probably make more sense once I’ve uploaded it).

There was a fishing arcade game, but I don’t suppose you want a picture of that. I’ve seen a picture of the one you’re thinking of but not the real thing. Yet. There was a dogwalking game with gayest dogs you have ever seen.
