    • Of course, being a stupid non-local I’ll need directions to Kings…

Also (and not wishing to question your taste in eateries) the young lady I’m hoping to be entertaining would, I’m sure, appreciate something…well, is it going to impress her?

      • if she’s veg and appreciates decent veg cuisine, it’ll impress her. otherwise, it’s going to look like a friendly basement slightly-dive (we ate there when visiting). food was great though.

      • if you want to take her to somewhere fancy, look for someplace that does italian and/or pasta. I can always eat at italian restaurants. stay away from french, eastern european or steakhouses.

      • Its not terribly salubrious, given you go down a passage, and the descend into a basement. However, the food is really great, and you may get bonus points for quickly finding such a good place to eat.

If you are looking for something slightly ‘showier’ then there is an Italian place near the Man on the Moon, on Norfolk Street (Near the Grafton center). Can’t remember what its called unfortunately, but they are very nice and do have a decent veggie selection. I’ve no idea how their catering is for vegans.

Kings is easily found, either by looking at the map on the other side of the link, or just looking for the fuck-off huge chapel.

Good luck in your quest to impress.

If you mean what used to be the Cafe Adriatic, that sadly shut down quite a while ago (a year?). It was in that row of shops/restaurants on the left hand side (as you walk away from East Road) past the MotM.
It’s now a rather crap Chinese buffet type place, sadly.

The food there was fantastic, indeed. Not cheap but very good value for money.

    • http://www.rainbowcafe.co.uk/ is the website of the Rianbow Cafe. As a vegan, I’d be very happy if anyone took me there – having a decent choice of what to eat is higher up decor on my list.

Happy cow also lists this place:

      The Pear Tree
      Hildersham
      01223-891680

      Vegan-friendly, Organic
      Not 100% vegetarian

  1. Agree with the whole “rainbows is friendly rather than impressive” bit, but it does win for being a real proper veggie restaurant and uber-friendly. Unfortunately the only really posh veggie restaurant I know of is in Ironbridge!
