Not far from Sigtuna there is the site of the ancient settlement of Runsa, a fortified farm on a defensible peninsula with extensive views over the lake.

On our way back from Östersund we stopped at another motorway service area, not quite as crazy as Dragon Gate.

We went back to the small island of Norderön.

We went to visit the Vikings again, for another banquet.

In the distance from Östersund you can just about see a range of mountains rising out of the plains. We took a drive up into them to take a look around.

The bridge from Solna over the motorway to Haga parken has memorials to a number of people – Gustav III, Fredrik Magnus Piper, Louis Jean Desprez and Carl Michael Bellman – all influential people in life in the park.

The longboat was moored on the shores of Nörderon, next to where the ferry lands, waiting to be taken out of the water before the ice comes. The ferry is replaced by an ice road in the depths of winter. We were waiting for a large enough crew to hold the boat steady as it was raised on a trailer attached to a tractor.

We took the ferry over the water to Norderön.

Further up the road toward Östersund is the Big Moose motel, with the smallest railway station I’ve ever seen.
