A digital misfit

Oh dear, a whole load of catching up to do and not really enough sleep to see me though…seems to be the way of things over here this time.

Thursday saw a trip to the photography museum in Ebisu, where there was an exhibit of works by australian artists. This turned out to be more art exhibit than photograph exhibit, with eight or nine artists each contributing a series of pictures. They were mostly staged pieces, which didn’t really do much for me. But a couple of the series were excellent, enough to make it worthwhile. I don’t think I can really do them justice here, though.

After the museum we headed up to the Top of Yebisu, with a great view north toward Shinjuku, we found a restaurant facing south, looking out over toward the bay, though we were too late to reserve any of the window seats.

Friday night was Alamode at Head Power, Shinjuku. We spent ages waiting for the venue to open and for Damian to show up, useless boy had followed my directions to the letter, of course I meant the next road over….

Again there were a few bands and shows on, the first of which was Euthanasie, who started out being a dirgy industrial band but redeemed themselves after a couple of songs by breaking out the 80s synths and throwing away their facade of seriousness.

Later were Princess Pudding (with a free flower) and a jester with a face on his knee, who didn’t make any sense to me.

I was being disturbed by some of the lolitas there, all dressed alike in their babydoll dresses with glow-in-the-dark petticoats, though I think the salariman lolita was the most worrying.

Saturday wasn’t much in the way of a day, waking up at 6pm doesn’t leave a lot of time to do anything.

Today I went to Akihabara where I bought a package of random electronics for 1000yen (5 pounds), when I got it unwrapped I discovered its a 2.5inch hard disk caddy, with USB<->IDE adaptor (is the 36way half pitch a standard IDE socket?).

Then, just as I was getting home, I ran into Jamie, Zara and Josh in the park by Hiroo station, so we took a wander around the park, where Josh played with dogs and fountains.

  1. I don’t think that was a fountain as much as a precision, water_based drill designed to kill unwary children. Who the hell designs a water fountain which shoots 6 feet+ into the air when you turn it on for a drink!

The same man who disgned the enema-giving toilets no doubt.
