Thursday Tracey took a few of us along to her friends band playing in Yotsuya, we eventually found the venue in the basement after a certain amount of yoyoing between floors. The venue was quite small, but very rock and roll, I think the capacity was around 60, so even with a reasonably small crowd it felt busy.
We arrived in time to catch the support band ‘Cloudy Dog Fish’, who seemed to get wound up by everyone calling them catfish instead….they were quite good, in a JIndie kinda way, nothing new soundwise but nothing bad either. And quite fun, the first band I’ve ever seen wearing a pith helmet.
Time for MJs band, Marshmallow Spike, she’s playing a beautiful sparkly bass, with her other half on guitar, they share the vocals and theres a drummer hiding in the smoke at the back of the stage. These guys are good, they only do quite a short set, but throw in a classic cover of ‘video killed the radio star’, as well as, apparently, a Pixies song, which I’d not recognised. Their own material is good too, and Yoshi (guitar) is rock star material.
After the show we head to a Peruvian izakaya (snacky-food with drinks bar), with a number of the JBloggers. They all seem like a nice crowd.
Then yesterday I think I must have needed some recovering, since I only woke up at 6pm, not really enough time to get out shopping before going out in the evening. But that wasn’t going to stop me.
I met up with Jamie for some food, then we were joined by Damien before heading to Marz for Haus Der Dekadenz.
This was the same format as the last one, just before I went back to England, sitting around theatre cabaret, rather than jumpy around livehouse or disco. The acts were quite varied, but seemed to mostly consist of the same group of people performing in slightly different configurations.
Highlights of the evening were the scary man with a bell, the lolita twins and Damian accidentally picking up some girls bag thinking it was his…
Its bad to be angry with someone for something they said in a dream, isn’t it?
