Neil Hopcroft

A digital misfit

Cheesy looking rockers, a bit like a Japanese Dogs DAmour in appearance. Their sound is fairly straight ahead glam rock, I didn’t listen to the whole album (I’ll revisit later), but did dip in to listen to their version of Paperback Writer, which is a near perfect version of one of my favorite Beatles songs – the main flaw being that the rhyming of “Leer” and “Be a” has gotten lost somewhere in the non-translation.

This looks like a classic mid-nineties indie release, complete with odd motion blur and a guy with green-blue hair. The sound is a little more rock than the indie I’d expected, but its not bad.

This CD looks like second rate indie techno. And sounds like it too, but its a bit more pop and less bed-room techno than I’d expected.

These guys look like a classic late eighties hair band. I didn’t know until I got home but this one contains an original set of limited edition stickers of photos of the band. I’ll try to photograph one of them to share the sheer ludicrousness of their appearence (you’ll be looking forward to that, won’t you?). The look is so strong I don’t remember too much about the music, though its entirely in line with the appearence – cheesy rock.

A final silliness, I bought this really to find out some more about CD singles (all the above were in cases I recognised, this was different). It comes in a tall thin case housing a small (7cm? 5cm?) disk. I chose this one from the poor selection of singles because it looked so daft, its a double A side by a band in Kanji with only one of the songs in English – Midnight Scarecrow. The case has a bunch of pictures of people getting married in various places and looks thouroughly bad. Musically it is a Japanese Salsa, but thats kinda outside my knowlege space so I can’t really say much more. It was worth 50p to find out things like that, I probably don’t need to buy another.
