Perhaps I should be posting a bit more frequently…? In the meantime, heres what I’ve been up to for the last 48 hours…
Finally got around to seeing the new Matrix film. Hmmm…not sure I understand it, though I’m sure all will become clear with the next one – a disappointing ending. There was some inspired cinema, especially the freeway scene, nothing particularly special by modern standards I know, but I like that sort of thing. I did get a bit annoyed by some of the bad computer effects, peoples faces falling off when they were moving fast, etc.
The agency are sorting out some flights for me for next Thursday – which gives me something of a “condemned man” approach to my remaining time here, thinking about what to be doing with every minute, a practice run for the real thing. It feels rather close, all of a sudden.
I went to get my visa from the Japanese embassy yesterday – having carefully checked the opening times on the website. So I was somewhat disappointed when I arrived to find they’d closed five minutes ago. Obviously I had checked the embassy opening times, not the consulate times. And they were incredulous that I didn’t know the difference. (what is the difference?)
Which all left me feeling rather alone in London with nothing to do for a few hours until BMovie. So time for a frantic bit of SMSing around.
I ambled over to childerics for an excellent bangers and mash meal with steer and sushidog. We must remember to salt Simons lettuce again, he made such wonderful faces. And it is not a bat with wellingtons, no matter what my twisted imagination thinks.
Then time for a quick half in the York on the way to BMovie. A final chance to catch up with Tom, Sam and Nicky…
Wow! What a night! I had expected to know some people there, but it seemed nearly everyone was there, I couldn’t move without bumping into people I’d not seen for ages. Too many to namecheck here – it was good to see everyone. Sorry for disappearing suddenly and not managing to say goodbye to many people.
Many thanks to Kate (? It was Kate, wasn’t it?) for the lift back to my car. It was nice, if a little unexpected, to meet someone else from Tonbridge – we’ll have to get in touch again next time I’m in town for any length of time…
Eventually my cheque from the old company arrived today – which should dig me out of some of the stress I’ve had lately. Assuming it works as a cheque, of course.
Paid a visit to Bluewater today and thoroughly failed to meet my objective there too. I will have to buy a suitcase on Tuesday, to give me a chance to pack on Wednesday. Its an evil place, consumerism gone haywire, sell sell sell, people everywhere all pushing and squeezing through without regard for those around, I’m more important than you, I’ve got bigger bags with sharper corners and flasher names, or a pushchair, or a walking stick. I’m looking forward to the day I snap and decide that its OK to be rude to people whereever I go, its gonna be so much fun.
I did find some more spooky Lego though – this time a skeleton, mummy and neon spider set. Lego Rocks.
