There is still a part of the old ash railway, originally used to transporting the ash from the incinerator, it is driven by one of the stationary engines.

The Cambridge Museum of Technology is housed on the site of the old town incinerator, where the towns rubbish came to be disposed of. The old ash tunnel is now used for storage but some of the boilers are still in use.

There’s quite a collection of light switches, some of which are still in use.

Now it seems weird to look back at some of the control panels from the past, with their space dedicated to individual dials and controls – these days we’d just have a few computer screens able to show different views as needed.
